by itsacoaster on 30 Jan 2010, 04:30 PMThe following is a public service announcement from Loren Bouchard. DVD! DVD! DVD! DVD! hi lucy fan people do you want to own a lucy dvd? do you want it to be special, with nice art and 1,000 extras? well, that's good. because adult swim is putting it out. i repeat - we are a go on project lucy dvd. why? because lucy is, apparently, the number one show in the build- your-own-dvd section of the adult swim shop. (!) so thanks to all of you who rolled your own and stuffed some lucy episodes in there. you made a "real" dvd possible - an actual "release" with rambly commentary and low budget featurettes and all that other stuff that makes dvds worthwhile. this lucy dvd will be exclusive to the adult swim shop. this lucy dvd will be contain both good and evil. and i say, again, YOU did this, you build-your-own-lucy-dvd-ers. thank you.
you heard it here first. because this site is fantastic. lucydotd will be evilly inseminated with more stuff this year as a punishment/reward for its existence. DVD! DVD! DVD! DVD!

I'll let Loren break the bad news himself: hi lucy fans,
sorry for the long-time-no-update. i was hoping for some good news - ANY good news - but there is none to be had... lucy, the daughter of the devil is not going to be renewed on adult swim. it
won't be a half hour, it won't be a quarter hour, there won't be a
pilot, and there won't be any more wait-and-see. it's dead. it died of
natural causes, i guess you could say. a few weeks ago. i've been putting off leaving word here because this feels REALLY final, writing to you.
i
think adult swim undervalued and under-appreciated the show, but i
don't want to complain about them here. they never saw this show as a
perfect fit, so we were on borrowed time from the beginning. it would
have been nice to get the home movies treatment - to do a few seasons
and make some DVD's and grow an audience, etc. but those opportunities
are very rare. it's a right time right place kind of thing. i doubt
home movies would get the home movies treatment, if we pitched it
tomorrow.
i want to thank adult swim, ultimately, because the 11
episodes that we made are exactly the episodes we wanted to make. and
where the network did put their fingers on it, they made it better.
mike lazzo and nick weidenfeld both had insights into the show in the
early days that i would have missed if i was developing it by myself
(remember, all i knew in the beginning was that i wanted to spoof the
omen 2). it was only at the end of this last development cycle or
whatever you want to call it, that we had creative differences, and
even then it was differences amongst friends for the most part.
will there be a dvd? i'm hoping that's a question that some of you will ask... we'll
make sure that there's a DVD. i don't know what kind of a battle that's
going to be, but short of the show getting picked up by someone else
(SO unlikely - forget about it. really.), i think a DVD is the best way
to honor the first season and hold open the possibility that people who
haven't seen it might find it in the future. so i will fight, hoof and
tail, to make it happen.
if you're reading this, i can't tell
you how much you mean to those of us who worked on the show. if i even
tried it would be embarrassing and gunky. but you don't wanna hear
about that, you wanna talk about lucy, which is great. so...
i'm
really sorry we couldn't make a second season happen. you deserved one,
the show deserved one, the characters deserved one... it totally sucks. i'm really sorry to have to write these words.
hail satan, loren

Loren stopped in a couple of days ago to give us an update on the status of the show. It looks like Adult Swim wants them to do another pilot. More details here. While he was updating us, he also decided to share a couple things: the end theme to Temptasia called "It Was Totally Amazing," and a Quicktime movie called "Party." Here's Loren's short description of the movie:
nora smith made this. we were testing after effects for another project but used lucy characters for fun.

I have now purged all accounts from 11 November through 08 December, except for those of you that informed me that you are not spam bots. If you did not receive your email or were too late to reply to it, your account was likely deleted and I apologize. Simply register again under the same name, if you'd like. I took the original warning off the front page to avoid freaking people out. To read the original announcement about the spam accounts, click here.

Brief update: I should have gotten this up sooner, but Loren Bouchard has reported to us that he's in the last stages of submitting scripts. One big thing, though: if the show is renewed, it will be 30 minutes long! So, stay patient and optimistic and keep watching for any updates.

No Lucy announcement yet, but Loren reported that Adult Swim really liked the first script sent to them. So we haven't lost hope just yet! And just to get everyone energized, Lucy is starting a Monday-Thursday run on Adult Swim starting September 1. Time TBA. Perhaps, if you continue supporting the show, we'll get some extra episodes sent our way. The other part of the update is that the episode summaries are finished. Give 'em a read--many thanks to gayeymcgayface27 and billyarnie for writing them up! As always, keep your internet tubes directed right here for any updates on the status of the show. UPDATE (26 August, 2008, 9:49 a.m. ET by itsacoaster): The weeknight run will air at 1:00 a.m. ET beginning the night of September 1.
